This rear-wheel drive passenger car is filed here with a working range of 32-35/32-35 psi. The pillar sticker on your VIN still overrides the website. TPMS typically warns near 25 psi (about 25% below target). That is already a soft tyre, not a fill target.

BMW 230 placard versus sidewall

Sidewall PSI is a carcass maximum. Recommended operating pressure for this 230 is the pillar sticker, near 34/34 psi.

Estimated pressure by tyre size (215/50R17 and others)

Planning cold pressures for sizes often seen on a passenger car. This 230 sample opens with 215/50R17, then 185/65R15 and 225/50R17.

PSI, bar and kPa

1 bar ≈ 14.5 psi; 1 psi ≈ 6.89 kPa. Mid-points on the 230: 34 psi = 2.31 bar = 231 kPa.

How to set the 230

  1. Measure before the school run, not after the M25.
  2. Write LF / RF / RR / RL. Do not keep 230 numbers in your head.
  3. Add air in short bursts toward 34 psi (2.31 bar) front and 34 psi rear.
  4. If one corner is 4 psi down, hunt for a nail before you blame the weather.
  5. Log date, ambient temperature and the four readings.

Temperature and a cold gauge

Roughly 1 psi per 5–6 °C. The table uses 34 psi as a 20 °C baseline for this 230.

BMW notes

BMW run-flats still want the placard. Comfort settings in the iDrive do not replace the door-pillar figure on this 230.

Spare and inflator kit

A matching full-size spare on the BMW 230 usually follows the higher axle (often the rear, near 32-35 psi). A space-saver is commonly 60 psi / 4.1 bar — read that tyre’s own sidewall. An inflator kit is not a spare; check the sealant date.

Pressure against load

Load moves the rear of a passenger car first. If the factory placard already has a “laden” column, use that instead of these sketches.

Keep the BMW 230 on the printed band; use 215/50R17 and 225/50R17 only as a map for non-OEM wheels.

Questions about this 230

What PSI if I plus-size toward 225/50R17?

Keep load index at or above OEM. Low-profile sizes usually stay at or slightly above the placard. Use 215/50R17, 185/65R15 and 225/50R17 as a planning band.

Is the sidewall number correct on a BMW 230?

No. Sidewall PSI is a maximum. The 230 placard is the operating target, near 32-35/32-35 psi.

How often should I check a 230?

Monthly, before a long trip, and after a 10 °C weather swing. Include a full-size spare.

What is that in bar and kPa for the 230?

Mid-points are about 2.31 bar (231 kPa) front and 2.31 bar (231 kPa) rear.

Should I bleed pressure after a motorway run?

No. Heat raises the gauge. Set cold only. Bleeding a hot tyre leaves it low the next morning.
