Run-flat tyre pressure

Run-flat tyres have stiff sidewalls so they can carry the car for a limited distance after a puncture. They still have a correct cold pressure. BMW and MINI models that ship on run-flats use the same door-pillar logic as everyone else.

Because the sidewall is stiff, you may not see a bulge when the tyre is 0.5 bar low. TPMS is how you know. Ignore the lamp and you can destroy a run-flat that might have been repairable.

Do not drop pressure to recover ride quality on run-flats. If the ride is unacceptable, the fix is a conventional tyre (and a spare or kit strategy), not 1.9 bar.

After a true zero-pressure run, many makers want the tyre replaced, not repaired. Distance and speed limits start when the tyre went flat, not when you noticed.

Inflate run-flats cold to the placard. Recheck after the first overnight; a new bead can leak slightly at first.
