Kilopascals (kPa) explained

Kilopascals are the SI unit hiding behind bar. 1 bar is defined as 100 kPa, so 230 kPa is 2.3 bar and about 33 psi. Some Asian and ISO documents print kPa without ever saying bar.

If your gauge has a kPa scale, you can set a typical hatch — around 220–250 kPa — without converting through PSI at all. Still confirm the placard unit.

A common mix-up is reading 250 kPa as 250 psi. That would explode a passenger tyre. If the number has three digits and the car is not a truck, you are probably in kPa.

Convert once, write the three units in the handbook, and stop doing arithmetic on a rainy forecourt.
