How to check tyre pressure

Updated 2026-09-18

Park overnight or for at least three hours. First thing, before the commute, is the best window. If you must check after driving, treat the reading as high and do not bleed air.

Remove the valve cap. Press a calibrated gauge straight on until the hiss stops. A crooked connection dumps air and lies. Write the number for each corner. Refit the cap; grit in the core is a common slow leak.

Compare each corner to the placard for that axle. Front and rear may differ. A 0.2 bar miss on one corner of an AWD car is enough to feel a pull.

Add air in short bursts, then re-measure. Forecourt compressors overshoot. If you are 1 psi over on a cold morning, leave it; the next frost will eat that.

Reset TPMS if the maker requires a relearn. The lamp going out only means you are above the 25% warning threshold — confirm with the gauge.
