4x4 and SUV tyre pressure
Updated 2026-09-18
A compact crossover on a car platform (Kuga, Qashqai, Tiguan, RAV4) usually sits in the same 2.2–2.4 bar neighbourhood as the hatch it is related to. A Defender on all-terrains does not. Read the sticker on that VIN.
Third-row occupancy, a roof box and a hitch tray are load. If the placard has a laden column, use it. If it does not, do not invent +0.4 bar; stay on the printed number and respect payload limits.
AWD crossovers want even pressures side to side. A 0.3 bar split can feel like a pull and can add work to a centre coupling.
Plus-size 20-inch packages on CUVs still use the placard. Dropping pressure to recover ride quality is how those tyres scallop.
Off-road air-down is for rocks and sand. Placard before the dual carriageway.
