Correlation Between Tyre Size And Pressure

Tyre inflation pressure is the level of air in the tyre that provides it with load-carrying capacity and affects the overall performance of the vehicle. That's because a wider car rim allows the beads of a clincher tyre to sit further apart, and as the tyre loses its bulbous shape to assume a rounded profile, there is a dramatic increase in the amount of tension on the sidewalls.

How Do I Check My Tire Pressure?

  1. Purchase a tire pressure gauge.
  2. Check that your tires are "cold".
  3. Insert the tire pressure gauge into the valve stem.
  4. Note the tire pressure on the gauge and compare with the PSI number on the sticker inside your driver door.

Making sure your tires are filled to the proper level is an important part of automotive care, and it's relatively simple, too.

Types of tyre pressure gauges

As a general rule, in any specialized store we can purchase these two types of meters:

Digital

These meters incorporate an LCD screen that facilitates reading. Due to their design, they are usually very resistant to humidity and dust. However, these teams usually need batteries and that, according to data from the General Directorate of Traffic, may have a precision error of 0.3 bar.

Analogue

These types of devices tend to be bulkier and require some skill in handling, especially if they incorporate an extension hose. They usually indicate the pressure with a needle and are somewhat more precise.
